Signal isolations describes the behaviour when the signal router touches a defined endpoint. If no endpoint is defined,

the signal isolation method will be ignored. Per default endpoints are set to Auto signal isolation.

Signal Isolation Rules

Auto Isolation - as soon as an endpoint is defined the router avoids touching it. This method avoids unwanted shorts on the route.

Always Isolated - the given pin is isolated from the system. The router will not touch it at all, it will find a way around it.

Never Isolated - if a pin is set to never isolation, then the router can/will always use this pin no matter what is connected to it.

See also Multipole Switches and Signal Isolation at the end of this section.

Example Signal Isolation

For the below switching configuration TP25 to TP28 are set to  Auto Signal Isolation.

Trying to route a signal from Bus12 to TP4 will fail, unless one of the signals is set to Never isolate,

in this case TP26 had been chosen and the router touches the non isolated pin.

Multipole Switches and Signal Isolation

By default the endpoint's signal isolation attribute is set to Auto which means a pin gets isolated as soon as there is an endpoint defined.

The side effect is that on multipole pole switch configurations a single connection might fail:

A Connect ("p1", "p3") will throw an error as there are the endpoints p2 and p4 involved and this second pole would short p2 and p4.

How to solve this?

Either switch of the Short Circuit Detection (SCD) or remove the endpoint alias p4 or set the endpoint attribute of p4 to Never.

Refer to  to section Option Short Circuit Detection.

Wired Double Throw Switches and Signal Isolation

In the below switching configuration by default EP1 and EP3 are connected.

In case all endpoints' signal isolation are set to Never or Auto then a Connect ("EP3", "EP2") will fail due to the isolation of EP1.

How to solve this?

Set all endpoints' signal isolation to Never if those endpoints are connected by default.
